Woodhouse Academic Book Coaching
Origami Editorial is now
Helping academic authors stay focused on the journey from idea to finished manuscript.
Are you. . .
Struggling to turn your dissertation into a book?
Wrestling with the “sophomore slump” of writing your second book?
Lost in the process of developing a book proposal?
In need of a “safe space” for talking through ideas ?
Seeking focused feedback, help staying on track, or encouragement to keep writing?
Writing is hard, and few scholars get any formal training in how to do it. As a fellow PhD with years of experience on the “editor’s side” of the desk, I can help.
I know where you’re coming from. I’m an academic like you (PhD, UC Berkeley, 2009), an author (see my books at Cornell University Press and Amazon), and a trained editor — so I understand both the pressures you face as an academic author, and what publishers are looking for. Through my work as a book coach for scholarly authors, I’ve developed a proven process that helps academic authors identify their obstacles, get clarity on their direction, and get the support they need to get the writing DONE.
How do you find your direction. . . and keep going til you reach your destination?
Writing without knowing your destination is a lot like starting a marathon without knowing which way the finish line is: Going fast might feel “productive,” but actually takes you further from where you need to go.
The truth is that scholarly writing is hard — and it’s especially hard to do on your own. Who can you look to for help? Your colleagues are busy, and might not be the best audience for your “uncooked” ideas. You might even have sought help from AI tools. But what you really need is another person to keep you accountable, talk through your ideas, and share your drafts with. Someone who can keep you motivated and focused, who can give you the inside track on the publishing process. Where can you find this kind of writing guidance and accountability? A writing coach can guide your way.
Transform your relationship with writing.
Once you get clear on your direction, you’ll be off and running on your writing journey. With the support you need to reach your destination, you’ll be able to make your unique contribution. Let me help you identify your roadblocks, discern your direction, and guide your way toward your writing destination.
